I have a laptop with a broken screen. I have a stereo / receiver in a living room. I want to set up either MPD or DLNA on the laptop and use an Apple USB DAC to connect the laptop to receiver.
My music library is large (3+tb), so I have to mount a share onto whatever I use. I prefer not to have an external connected to the laptop. R-Pi could not handle the library mount, any of the mpd-based distros (I forget which two I tried) just zonked out and couldn't update the db.
My hope is that the laptop with Ubuntu + MPD + smb mount will be able to handle the library. I could use DLNA, but, my question is what is the best way to use a phone or laptop to control what is playing on the laptop->receiver? Does anyone else have a setup they like?
