Hi,

just thought I'd ask if anyone knows of a trick to use the 3-way mirror option with only 3 drives instead of 5 in storage spaces -- I'd like to use storage spaces with ReFS for a 3-way mirror, but I only have 4 drive bays in my supermicro 1u case.

Was hoping maybe there is a registry key that can be changed to affect this or something like that ...

Thanks!
Avery

This is a feature... the metadata has to have a minimum of 3 copies... so the minimum number of disks is 5 because the metadata is 3 + 2 (redundancy/quorum of 5)

For this particular case it's way better to use a hardware RAID controller with RAID1 of 3 drives (which is a 3-way mirror). It will be much faster compared to software-based storage spaces RAIDing.

The legacy diskmgmt.msc with either dynamic volumes or mirrored volumes is another option. Wouldn't use this in production though but should work.
