I am looking for a storage array that is compatible with non vendor disks.
For example, I know that the HPE MSA 2050 series is compatible with the Samsung PM1643a (enterprise, sas, dual port) disk.
NetApp only works with manufacturer disks.
But what about the others?
Could anyone have some experience with this?

I want to buy storage that have more functionality compared to the HPE MSA 2050.
But I don't want a typical software solution like FreeNAS because I want HA.

I would say "certified disks" is mainly to keep profit high and to a lesser degree to avoid problems and to limit support requests.

If you want to avoid, you should prefer OpenSource solutions like ZFS or commercial solutions that use OpenSource ZFS ex IX or NexentaStor.

@i386
I want iSCSI or NFS in HA mode so JBOD is not a solution for me.
Of course I can build something very cheap myself (NFS + ZFS + Corosync + JBOD) but I prefer to have a higher level solution.

@Goose
IX - could you expand on the shortcut? I do not know this solution.
