If you absolutely must have the dead-end RJ45 connector due to existing cable, intel X540 single port is around that price.

SFP+ cards are a lot more common, cheaper (some under $20 lately) and all around superior choices. You can also get used/server pull 40GbE+FDR mellanox QSFP cards for under $200 now.

I can't recall the source, but I remember there were various issues with these cards based on performance, latency and cooling.

I wouldn't call it "dead-end" since many places have CAT5+ infrastructure and 10GBASE-T permits that stuff to be reused, so I expect it'll sell like hotcakes. And I imagine it'll continue to be installed long after SFP+ modules have been consigned to the scrap heap.

That said, if you can do SFP+, or you are open to running fibre around, strongly consider that instead.
