Running a Supermicro X10SRL-F with Intel Xeon E5-2650 V4. I have run into an issue where any 2400Mhz DIMM I use in the motherboard clocks in at 2133Mhz.

I have tried these DIMM modules:
SAMSUNG M393A4K40BB1-CRC4Q 32GB
SAMSUNG M393A4K40BB1-CRC4Q 32GB
MICRON MTA36ASF4G72PZ-2G3B1 32GB

I am running 4X DIMMS in slots A1, B1, C1, D1. Inside the BIOS it reports the DIMMs are 2133. IPMI reports the DIMMs as 2400Mhz capable but running at 2133Mhz.

BIOS is running the latest 3.2 and Firmware is also the latest at 3.86.

.. Checked the ARK page and the CPU does support 2400Mhz:Intel® Xeon® Processor E5-2650 v4 (30M Cache, 2.20 GHz) Product Specifications

Have you zeroed the serial number? Usually its present here ...
Dont think the spd has an issue, its detecting 2400 fine after all, just noticed it

Did not zero the serial number but it is also odd when displaying CPU information. I might be facing a bigger issue.

Bouncing emails with SuperMicro support.

What speed does it select if you only plug in 2 dimms rather than all four? How about with a single one?

You sure thats not a ES cpu counterfeit as 2650v4 ?

You might want to run the intel check tool

Ran the IDT and it returned a genuine Intel at the expected Ghz. It did fail on BrandString. Read through this document but did not gain much insight into why it failed, what it means when it fails, or how to resolve the failure other than to bypass when a test fails.

Googling and reading Intel's forum....

2x DIMMs shows 2133Mhz
1x DIMM shows 2133Mhz

I tried this test with different brands of memory and LRDIMMS; all of which show up as 2400Mhz capable but operating at 2133Mhz and the BIOS shows 2133Mhz

Weird that Intel tool say genuine when its an ES one

And you even bought it as ES?

ES might lack certain features which RDimm support for higher speeds might be one off...
I was just reviewing several ES auctions on Ebay. The sellers disclose any odd nuance of the product... eg. a 20 core ES that should be 2.2 with a turbo of 3.5 the seller says it clocks at 2.0 with a max turbo of 2.3.

well its fairly common that ES cpus are cut down on performance - maybe they limited dram speed too

I believe that is the case. The system is rock solid from a stability perspective. At this point I am caulking up the memory speed to it being a limitation within the CPU. I don't have another v4 CPU to test with.

Thanks everyone for your help! @Rand__ @mmo @PigLover

WRT the IDT results: ES CPUs really are Genuine Intel. They are not “counterfeit”. They just aren’t the final product intended for sale, which is why the BrandString isn’t populated with a marketing name (“0000” instead of “E5-26xx” or whatever).

But was the Identification tool not intended to identify ES and similar CPUs ?
Or is that done with the missing identifier?

You need to disable Enforce POR asi it will try to play by the book. If it does not detect cpu correctly it will put restrictions on memory clocks. After disabling POR I have set memory frequency higher than manual states it should go (especially on multiple memory modules on single channel). As always - it will not damage anything, but if server crashes on you , don't blame me. So far i've had no problems with it and especially on ES cpu's you probably know better what the cpu handles than Motherboard that does not understand the cpu correctly.

I have E5-2696v4 and It bumped my 2133 memory to 1866mhz if two dimm's per channel was used. it should still be 2133mhz on two sticks. so disabled POR and it automatically went to 2133. I did this also on v3 cpu and also worked without any ill effects, but v3 is said to run 2133mhz on single dimm per channel and 1866mhz then two dimms per channel is used so it's out of spec.
