Hi Patrick and the STH team,

Thank you for reviewing the Sodola SL-SWTGW2C48NS switch.

I was looking to upgrade to 10GB with SFP+. So last fall I ordered a MikroTik CRS309-1G-8S+IN, as I have heard lots of good things about it. And price was reasonable. Got it, upgraded the firmware, and it become a brick. At that point I didn't realize that that was a good thing. I returned that and started to look for an alternative and found Sodola's SL-SWTGW2C48NS. Looked around your site, and to my surprise I could not find a test of that specific model on your site, as this for sure would fit the series of cheap switches. However, I saw that you had tested Sodolas switches before, and they seemed to be well worth their price. So I ordered one, and sure it performs well. And as your review points out the benefit of 4 extra RJ45 ports is nice, and makes the price even better if you ask me. A 10GBE Ethernet transceiver after a quick look on Amazon goes from about 10€, I guess about 12$. I have also tested it with a DAC, and that too works. So far so good.
The bad thing is that the fan seems a bit noisy, I might upgrade that at some point.
All in all I'm happy with it.

Now to a question:
I have tried to set the switch IP address, with no success. I wonder if anyone has done it and succeeded, and if so what is the correct process to do it? I have tried a few things, but either I loose connection totally (and have to do a hard reset), or it reverts back to it's factory setting after power down.

Kind regards,
Leif

Apologies for offtopic, but how on earth did you managed to brick Mikrotik switch by upgrading firmware ? Process is straightforward.
Also, how did you returned bricked device ?

Back on topic - I suppose that you've set IP address under "Network" => "IP Address". Perhaps you've forgotten to click "save" in upper right corner of the interface ?
If you clicked save and it still soft-bricks or loses settings then you probably got faulty unit.

Well after firmware update just beeping.. I did follow the manual, later I read that other people had run into it to. Some got it back with netinstall application. Hard reset didn't help either. Amazon took it back.

I have to double check, there is an apply button...looked on internet for a pic, true the save is well hidden at the top. I'll let you know if it works.
I haven't set up any VLAN's so I guess I don't have to do any changes to that?
