Found a listing for seagate 5tb external portable drives for 75 each. If you pop them open they are just the 5tb 2.5" (ST5000LM000) got 30 of them. Going to run 24 in a raid 6+2 with 2 ssds for cashcade. Well, if I ever get my quanta switches figured out. Im kinda expecting a higher than average failure rate with them till a vender gets a nas version 2.5 5tb drive im kinda stuck with these... But at $75 and portable drives somehow cheaper that the bare drives, its not that bad.

A few weeks ago I scored an APC XS 1300 UPS from Goodwill on their half priced Saturday event (every other weekend in AZ) for $9. Factory batteries had never even been connected but were swollen and slightly cracked. Replaced them with a new set for $35 and it runs perfectly. The box was for a XS 1500 but I found the XS 1300 inside. Was dissapointed at first but then realized I still got a $150+ UPS for under $50 with battery replacement.

Wow, I wish I could find a deal like this. Recently got a DL380 G6 SFF server and wish I had gone LFF cause any decent sized 2.5" drive is pricey.

I have found the best deals on Ebay are from sellers who have no clue what the value of the item is.

Got a €300 Chieftec 3HE case for €35 in an auction with a 'torn off handle' - turned out to to be only the screw head and minor bends.
Got the matching €90 hotswap drive cage nib for 40 as well :)

Now just wonder where to get the €70 rails for cheap - wouldn't want to pay about as much for them as for the rest of the case;)

I got a pair of Fusion-IO ioDrive-II 1.2TB recently for $250 each. Didn't really know it was a super deal as I bought it in a combo with some HBAs. Folks in the Fusion-IO reference thread seem to think it was a good score.

A few weeks ago, I got 4x E5-2660 (v1) for $100, or $25 each. Was hoping for a good deal on a set of 4 E5-26xx v2, but couldn't find one and found this deal so went ahead with it. Figure it'll hold me over until v2 prices come down more.

I think that's the most $ I'd pay for the IO2, a deal for sure :) not 'awesome' but def. good since going rate seems to be 250-350 for 1.2TB.

Those drives are great.

AND @BLinux even better, someone posted how to get them to work in Proxmox :D That's on my TO DO next! Plan to try 2x356GB IO 2s with a E3-12xx v3 setup and Proxmox/

Scored a Supermicro X8DTH-6F on eBay. Seller accepted $100 offer. Had a genuine need for it so it was a timely buy at a good price. Not great but definitely good.

I love that board. I was originally going to base my server build on that board with 2x L5640, but then I heard Sandybridge/IvyBridge might save me significantly on power consumption... that didn't exactly work out the way I hoped, so now i have an extra X8DTH-6F. Still plan to make use of it for something...

She's sporting a couple of E5645's and 48GB of ram. Case is a CSE-745TQ. Boot drive is a S3700 800GB (overkill, I know). Video is a GTX 750 (It's gonna be a workstation). Still need to update the BIOS and IPMI and flash the onboard Falcon 2008 to IT mode before I call it a day.

Nice! I just got a similar workstation for $250 on eBay: HP Z800 workstation, dual X5675, 48GB RAM, no hdd/gpu, so currently looking for a GPU for it. I have plenty of SSDs/HDD I can add to it, just need a GPU. This will be a Fedora Linux workstation machine for my son to tinker on, play games, and do school work. Appears to be formerly a Walt Disney Animations owned machine per asset tag in the bios.

That's an awesome deal. I have one system with a pair of X5675's. Cinebench score is 1452, not too shabby at all.

Yesterday I got myself a used and locally sourced Kell Systems PSE18 (=APC Netshelter CX 18U) soundproofed rack enclosure for NOK 3000 = USD 380 = €325. It will be replacing my 14U HP rack that I've got in the basement. Should help with the noise that is sometimes bothersome, as well as prevent general basement dust from damaging the equipment.

CSE-216BE2C-R920LPB from Amazon Warehouse Deals for $324.

Sas3 dual expander backplane and 2 920SQ PSUs. Sounded too good to be true. Placed the order without thinking twice. Should be delivered tomorrow. Fingers crossed.
