I have a pair of new old stock 8TB HGST SAS drives made in 2014 that are throwing a SMART predictive failure but ONLY when connected to HP RAID controllers. I've taken them out of my production system for now but when connected to an LSI controller there are no SMART warnings. Anyone else seen this?

My primary system is an HP DL380 G9 using a P840 and the test system is using a much older P410 on a supermicro server board. An LSI 9267-8i also in the test system reports no SMART issues nor does HD Sentinel. The only thing keeping me from putting them back in use mirrored with another drive that doesn't show a predictive failure is that the failure will forever put the server into "degraded" state and might cause me to miss a more serious failure.
