I have a SM X10DAC which includes the LSI SAS3008 raid controller. I would like to connect two Intel 750 1.2TB U.2 drives to the controller via the two LSI SFF-8643 ports and the Intel supplied SFF-8639 to SFF-8643 cables. After a failed initial attempt and subsequent additional research, it would seem that, at least in IR mode, non SAS/SATA end devices are incompatible with the 3008 SAS/SATA controller.

At this point I would like to determine whether flashing the LSI controller to IT mode might allow me to pass through the (2x) 4 pcie lanes directly to the SFF-8643 ports and at least get the drives up and running. If not, I suppose I'll join the crowd currently waiting for the x16 NVMe controllers to become available.

Thanks in advance!

No, you need to use the NVME AOC for 2x NVME. 1 card will work for 2x 2.5" NVME but no SAS 3008 will work.

Or you can use the Funtin adapter for 1x 2.5" per-PCIE slot.

Much appreciated!

I'd really like to consolidate into a single card as I have another x4 drive which is currently occupying a x16 slot. Until I add a second CPU (which I really don't need at the moment), active slots are in short supply. It's unfortunate to have made this discovery so late in the game.. probably would have gone with a different board.

If you purchased the LSI 3008 HBA separate I'd take it... very interesting motherboard choice with 2x CPU support, sound, and no IPMI...

At the time, the expectation was that it would be able to support a high end GPU, a 1.2TB 750 AIC, (2x) 2.5" 1.2TB 750's via the LSI 3008 sff-8643 ports, and a single 2696v4.. with room to expand should I ever want to add a second 2696v4 down the road.

Really more of a test bench for the eBay 2696v4...

Oh well.. guess I'll need to either purchase a second processor for more pcie lanes/x16 nvme raid support when the cards become available, or build a second box :D

It looks like the rocket raid 3840a controller is currently only available to OEM's.. any chance a forum member might have an inside line for obtaining a sample now?
