i have 2x older supermicro 2u 12bay enclosures, both current came with the BPN-SAS-826TQ , direct attached back-planes (direct attached, ie with 12x sata as inputs, on the rear).

Im hoping to buy 2x bpn-sas-826el1 (sas2 expanders), as im redoing my entire setup.

My concern / question is, will the sas2-826el1 physically fit, in these slightly older chassis?

looking at picts on ebay of the sas2 expander, vs my current 826TQ , 3 out of 4 screw holes do seem to line up, but on the left (of my current TQ) there is a slide on type pin, where as on the sas2 there is a screw hole (and on my sm chassis, there is a pin that is the "male" part of the "female" part on my 826TQ and you can slide it on)

also on my current TQs (on the bottom row -see my pict) there is a clip that is part of the chasis that pushes the BP up against the drive bays, vs the sas2 seems to have a (removable) metal enclosure around the backplane, that *screws down* into the chasis.

does anyone know if this will fit? i do know that my 826TQ's layout is exactly like the BPN-SAS-826EL1 's layout (so this is the same question as: will the BPN-SAS2-826EL1 fit in place of a BPN-SAS-826EL1 ?)

thanks

1: make sure you look for a bpn-sas2, a bpn-sas is sas 1.
2: I happen to have a bpn-sas2-826el1 for sale, which I bought off of the bay ~3 months ago with the same concept, but non-sm recipient case and then decided it was going to be more effort than worth it. I bought for 30, asking 40 just to cover my cost of shipping.

I know it's been a while, but did you manage to fit the bpn-sas2-826el1 inside your supermicro chassis (I have the same one with the BPN-SAS-826TQ backplane)
