NM-I2011 Mounting-Kit
noctua have a kit to convert their coolers to lga 3647, imagine supermicro will have 3u fan coolers availble soon.
I'm not sure that is correct info. 2011 or 2066 != 3647.

Regardless the part is already on sale on Amazon but I haven't read anything that implies the new desktop socket and server socket are compatible.

Looking at the picture it seems all your fans are sucking out air. You will get a seriuos under-pressure inside chassis and this is not very benefitial. All the cool air has to be sucket trough vents.. Apart from bad cooling you will suck in dust. A small over-pressure is what you should aim for. Three 120mm + one 80-92mm (or the third 120mm a higher rev. one) in and three 120mm out. Something like that. ;)

OP here. Super super happy to see today's news! From before, what is the saying, "Those who know do not say, those that say do not know"? :)

New Intel Xeon W Processors for Professional Workstations Announced
https://www.servethehome.com/new-intel-xeon-w-processors-for-professional-workstations-announced/
I was hoping they were coming, and historically the single socket Xeons were announced on a different date, but I was still spending a ton of time piecing together theoretical E5 v2, E5 v3, and E5 v4 systems, but I will put one together based on these now! Pricing is more in-line with the historical E5 1600 line and there are even more lanes plus the power savings and IPC goodness, etc.. Very excited.

It's a better fit for my workload and priorities. The W-2145 looks like the one I will get, and I finally have something that is worth upgrading from my current W3690 for.

Cheapest 18 cores v3 right now is e5-2686 v3 for $600. i am building one of those. The v3 and v4 option will last at least another year if not more. even v2 with the 2696 v2 dual cpu setup is still very competitive.

W-2145 Xeon -SP is not bad. 8 cores at 3.7ghz. turbo to 4.5 but does this turbo value only apply to 1 cores usage? but $1100 for the cpu is quite steep price. Are your apps really only can use up to 8 cores and not more? because if it can use more cores, something like a dual 2696 v2 would completely blow it out of the water with much much cheaper memory.

I'm looking for better interactive performance in Adobe Lightroom. That is mostly single-threaded, with some other core use, but it does not scale well across cores. I realize that the E5-1650/1660/1680/2667/2698W would be faster than what I have now, but I'm looking for something faster enough to justify the cost in time and money to setup a new system. ~30%-40% faster (which is what those would be at best) didn't seem worth it. The scroll test that Puget Systems runs seems to be the closest to what I am looking for, and the newer consumer Intel CPUs with their high clocks and IPC improvements beat older CPUs with higher core counts, so this Skylake-W line seems to be the perfect balance for someone like me that wants the best Lightroom interactive performance but also values ECC and the occasional multi-core task like Lightroom import and export, video transcoding, PAR2 generation, etc.

Intel also substantially modified the price structure. In previous generations, there were Xeons E5 and Core i7 HEDT that were extremely similar in specs and usually at around the same price. But in the current generation, The 10 Core Xeon-W 2155 cost 450 U$D more than the equivalent Core i9 7900X. Heck, the 8-Core Xeon-W 2145 is still 120 U$D more expensive.
A curious thing is that the Xeon-W has 48 PCIe Lanes compared to Ci9 44. Oh, and the Xeon-W according to the Ark doesn't support SGX extensions, which seems weird.

I think the magic is in the lowest end model. The Xeon-W 2123, a Skylake-X Quad Core @ 3.6 GHz with the full 48 PCIe Lanes, 2 AVX units and ECC support, at a lower price than the Core i7 7700. I suppose the C422 Motherboards are going to be quite expensive, but the Processor itself looks amazing on paper. What is missing is Supermicro Motherboards...

AMD Ryzen 7 is also worth looking into for lots of threads. rizen 7 1950x is basically a 2cpu glued together to give 16 core and 32 threads in one socket for 1000 bucks. the multicore bench kills all of the usual intel extreme single cpu. but it does has tdp of 185w....

Half the cores and the same clock speed. We need to see benchmarks. But this isn't really exciting.
