That's getting really cheap for those six-core CPUs.

Get the LSISAS2008 6G mezzanine card (part number XX2X2) for the SSDs and then add in one of your many 10GbE PCIe cards for Ethernet. If your sleds lack the proper mounting brackets for the LSI card, and you don't feel like bending metal yourself, you can scavenge them from an older LSI 1068e card setup like this.

$1349 for 8 6-core with ram!!

Anyone know a good setup for using one of these with SSD and 10gbe ethernet?

I want to try one!!

So assuming the L5639 is "worth" $135 then that means they are including the chassis, PSU, sleds, etc, for $74. Not a bad deal...but it might suggest the price of the L5639 has not yet found the floor.
With the normal c6100s selling for $800 and the L5639 versions running $1,200, I call it $400 for the faster CPUs, or +$50 per CPU. The L5520s are now $35 on eBay, so my best guess at the new benchmark price for an L5639 is $35+$50=$85. I expect to see these CPUs at around that price soon, maybe up to $95, and I'll pick up a few when they do.

These are most certainly headed under $100. Recall, in <2 months we will have a new generation in the wild.

What do you guys mean? These will be sub $50 just like the L5520 chips are now. May take a few more months.

Anyone running singles of these? They can run all 6 reg DIMMs / socket @ 1333 right? If so, could save power not just with idle but also by using 1 proc per board. That's 240w only worth of CPU and still 16x6GB (96GB) can be had easy for each one. Only lose 2 cores from dual L5520.

Does anyone know if its possible to assign 6 drives to two of the nodes on the C6100 ?
On the 2.5" ones I believe each node gets 6 of the 24 drive bays. On the 3.5" ones, no.

Assign -- no. Rewire -- yes. There are 6 SATA connectors on the motherboard and midplane of each of the 4 nodes. In the 12 node chassis, each board has 3 of them connected, and 3 open. If you have extra SATA cables, you can rewire the 3 open SATA connectors to any unused drive slots. Keep in mind that this makes the sled 'non hotswap', else you'll be ripping SATA connectors out...

I can check and confirm. I bought a 2 node 12 x 3.5" chassis about year ago. It's been sitting in the rack powered off since I jumped on the E5-2570 build. Need to part it out and add to my FS thread.

Did you get any LSI 2008 cards for it? Or HBAs with the vertical port arrangement?

I did not get any mezzanine cards with it if that's what you were asking. I may have a couple of regular PCIe cards in a different system or as a spare. But as you know H200 (vertical) or H310 (horizontal) can be bought for 35 - 45 pretty regularly on ebay.

That's just the mobo to the interposed extender. Probably more relevant to show wiring from backplane to the midplanes.

One other question: If I only need to run one cpu on one of the systems (just to reduce power consumption), if there anything special to run it without the second CPU? Or just remove CPU2 and its associated ram?
Just remove the cpu and ram. This worked fine for me as I did it the other day.
