Background: I'm re-using a 3TB drive from an existing system in my Solaris 11.1 NAS. I used GPARTED to remove all the partitions and left the all the drive space as unallocated. In the past I have always used new drives so I never bothered to format them in Solaris, just created a zpool without issues.

Three questions:
1. Is it necessary to re-format the drive in Solaris or should I just create another zpool with the entirety of the drive being "unallocated"? (When I check the available disks it shows as formatted...)

2. I started the format process tonight, approximately how long will it take to format 3TB?

3. Are there any special considerations I need to take into account using a 3TB drive in Solaris 11.1?
