I'm having trouble finding any server chassis' consisting of at least 20-24 host swap bays that are relatively short depth (22" or less). I'd prefer full chassis but I'd take JBOD if need be. Do any exist?

Have you browsed Mr Rackables?

They used to / might still sell that highly popular 24x bay that ppl upgraded expanders/fans/psus, etc....
I forget the name of it, but I have one sitting here someplace... looks like it's from 1999, industrial lol.

I assume you mean the Rackable Systems SE3016? Although that would work, I would probably avoid it. It needs alot of work to be upgraded for modern technology (I had two of them at one point). I upgraded the PSU, the fans, and the SAS expander to a more modern setup. Also, it is only 16 bays :)

But, there aren't spot of options in this form factor, so this may be one of only a few options.

Unfortunately, most of the short depth full chassis cases only come with up to eight hot swap bays. Something like this.
NORCO RPC-4308 4U Rackmount Short Depth 15.25" 4U Rackmount Case with Eight Hot Swap Trays Standard ATX, mini redundant power supply - Newegg.com

Or, you could look at some of the HP or Dell DAS cases, but those are all 2U and 12 drives as far as I know. Also, I think these maybe more like 23" - 24" deep though (like the MD1200 or MSA60). 22" or less is going to be challenging.

I just realized my current chassis' is 22.83" but that's the absolute max I can fit. It's too bad because being that it's a 4U case there is clearly room for 20+ drives if it didn't have the trayless bays (which I do love by the way).

The Norco DS-24E could have fit the bill, but it looks like it's discontinued, and the price always seemed way too high.

That's a nice looking case, and is pretty amazing you can shoehorn an ATX build in there as well. I'm not sure you will do much better than that in this size range.

All my boards are SuperMicro FlexATX. I got plenty of room :). But yea, haven't found a better option yet. Guess I'll have to stick to 16 drives 3.5" drives + 2 x 2.5" drives.

Optionally, Dell 720xd with 12+4 3.5 drives is not costly but valid chassis.

All be it you need >= 20 bays i got my hands on a SGI SE3016 that im modding i was in your kind of situation for the form factor + count it was more expensive than dealing with the 3016 Chassis... Size wise it fits your criteria, but it would require modding to make it faster with the existing SAS Expander...

Just food for thought might be cheaper getting 2 of these and modding might be easier to find.

Case cost me 190$ Shipped, i decided to just upgrade it with SAS2 Expander (Intel) for all the parts including making my SAS-3008 internal an external port and the SAS3 to SAS2 cables was bout 200$ so not too bad for a JBOD...

I always enjoy seeing other people racks , especially the neat ones. What switches do you use if I may ask ?
Top switch below the patch panel is a Dell X1052. Below that is a Cisco SG350XG-24F and below that is my pfSense box with a C2758 in it.

Thanks. The pfsense box I already guess what it is by the look of it. I have C2758 too for pf sense but in different 1u chassis.
