I'm looking at the SuperMicro X7SPE-HF-525

http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/ATOM/ICH9/X7SPE-HF-D525.cfm

my understanding is that the IPMI baseband piggybacks one of the NICs and that in older firmware there is a bug that causes the piggyback to switch NICs between power cycles. (http://serverfault.com/questions/14...nterface-my-supemicro-ipmi-is-piggybacking-on)

a post on the serverfault.com thread suggests that X8*** boards, the latest firmware allows you to bind the IPMI interface to a physical NIC. does anyone know if the X7 board above will provide the same with its latest firmware? I want to take advantage of the PCIe slot to add a dual intel NIC to have 4 NICs (a dedicated IPMI, a WAN, a LAN, and a DMZ)

i'm also getting a PowerConnect 2724 and learning about vlans and such to lock down the IPMI access. but vlan questions will be a different post :)

Thanks!
