Hello,
I have LSI 9280-4i4e and icydock 4disk chassis with esata conectors. So I bought SFF-8088 to Esata breakout cable like this: NEW Mini SAS SFF-8088 4i to 4 esata 7P HDD External Multilane 8088 SAS Cable 1M 711765391660 | eBay
Problem is, that after connecting chassis with controller, it doesnt see the disks. I also tested connecting it to HBA, LSI 9212-4i4e and also nothing.
Then I started bunch of tests. I bought SFF-8088 to SFF-8087 adapter and SFF-8087 cable. Connected it through internal port of LSI card (LSI 8087-> 8087/8088 adapter -> chassis) and disks were visible in system.
I also tested SFF-8088 of the LSI 9212 by connecting my LTO drive via amphenol branded cable, and that was detected fine. But connecting LTO drive via chinese 8088/8087 adapter, drive not detected.
Clearly, there is some issue with SFF-8088 compatibility. Anyone knows if its possible to mod the cable/card to make it work? anyone knows of working SFF-8088 to eSata breakout cable that works when connected directly to LSI card?
Edit: attaching connector photo. Amphenol is on right, chinese on left.
