set up RAID-10, 4 drives on 8217-8i, use one miniport or both?

I want to set up a 4-disk RAID-10 on this controller card. It has two SFF-8087 miniports which can handle 8 total disks on two cables.

Should I place all 4 disks on one miniport cable, or put two disks each on both miniports using two cables?

All of the 8 channels on the card should be independent and if directly connected to drives without a back plane involved then it should not not matter how you distribute the drives across the channels.

Two cables
- more messy (when servicing, this is why I would not use two cables)
- more obstruction of the airflow
- higher costs (because two cables)
