Hey All,

I got this server from Kijji (similar to craigslist) and for the life of me i cannot find any service tag(none in the bios or physically on the server) or update the BIOS. The whole system is a mystery and there is also no cover on this thing.

From what I understand its either a C6220 ii or a C6320 Chassis.(12 bay 3.5 inch) Both boards are a dell 7x37h

Its a Haswell-E (LGA-2011-V3) board. It does have Idrac 8 in it. I tried updating the bios and its not working (not compatible). Tried many diff bios's, even dell support assist or the dell Server Utility can't detect the board.

At this point i tried everything i could think of. Any ideas or suggestion would be appreciated.

Back in the day when I had C6100, there was a dell site for ‘C’ series servers with the FW and drivers. I think the link is in the guides/resources section here. Let me see if I still have the link. Hopefully it has the files you are looking for.

Yes, I tried the bios from a c6320 no luck. I tried various versions of it. I tried updating via idrac, windows and EFI shell. They aren't compatible with the product. Strange eh

Hello @DarthZash o/

The boards look like C6320 but in a 6220 chassis.

The Bios Version makes little sense as it isn't C6320 version / date .

Is this thing branded Dell ? It may even be some development unit.

hmmmm

Right! It's a weird system. When you load up the system the bios logo appears. I bought it without a cover on (dumb mistake). I found a few more stickers on the side here. The other motherboard is the exact same thing except the bios is older 1.01. could it have a custom bios on it? Also I think I found the board for it a dell 38vv0.

Dr Google shows a Masaru Igari as working for Dell.

MJ7HR comes back as a C6220.

As I said, this looks like a C6220 with C6320 boards inside.

The bios dates for C6320 are as follows

2.10.5 10 Sep 2019Urgent
2.9.1 01 Feb 2019Urgent
2.8.0 14 Jun 2018Urgent
2.7.1 24 Feb 2018Urgent
2.6.0 28 Nov 2017Recommended
2.5.4 26 Sep 2017Recommended
2.4.2 20 Mar 2017Urgent
2.2.5 19 Sep 2016Recommended
2.1.5 01 Jun 2016Recommended
2.0.3 31 Mar 2016Recommended
1.1.4 25 Jan 2016Recommended
1.1.3 19 Jan 2016Recommended
1.0.3 05 Oct 2015Recommended

In your BIOS setup it shows 1.0.7 as being "09/26/2014"

The bios shows the product as a DCS 6300

I'm thinking that this may be a data center product

Dell Data Center solutions (DCS)

It might not have been a "customer" system. At least not in the sense as you could have bought one for say, use in a small business or something like that.

Hello @DarthZash

What memory does this thing take?

Being a E5 2620 V3 it should be DDR4

The Poweredge C6220 and the C6220 II should be DDR3
Strange that bios can't be downloaded. But yeah it might've been a custom server for something.

Yep that's correct it's a ddr4 board lga 2011-V3. I thought it was ddr3 as well.

It could be possible to force a firmware update if you were willing to risk it.

/forcetype as a switch for the firmware update utility

If you are willing to try then you should be able to use the Windows executable from one of the links in my previous post.
I would start with the oldest one c:\somewhere> BIOS_M1HR8_WN64_1.0.3.EXE /forcetype

fingers crossed
