I just started work at a HW distributor that sells a lot of hard drives for servers. Currently we don't know when we need use the expensive original parts or if we can use a cheaper third party hard drive.
Is it possible to find a list of which server brands vendor lock their hard drives? And which models?
I know that HP locks some of their servers so they can only use HP hard drives, while some models like the Proliant series can use third party drives without problems.
Is there any rule of thumb to distinguish between what models require original HP hard drives?
What about other manufactures like Dell, Lenovo, Fujitsu and others,
Any help would be appreciated.
