I am about to receive a large amount of gear and I need to empty many shelves of server gear.

- If you can come pick this up, that is best (Zip Code 30043).

Do the storage units come with caddies?
Good question:

The Equallogic does since it has 16x 1Tb drives installed.

I have found a mistake where I didn't include the drives in the units so that is resolved now (I edited the post)
I also tweaked the prices and caddie/blank counts to answer your question.

Are these servers junk or is there no interest for some other reason?
Feel free to let me know your thoughts.

These servers gotta go.

I agree with T_Minus, 1366 stuff is very dated by now. (if only that was true for the X58 desktop boards that still go for ridiculous money!)

I wouldn't call it junk, but it's not going to command the prices you have it listed for since you can get more bang for the buck. PM me if you want me to give you some pricing recommendations. :)

If I was closer right now (won't be until near the end of the month), I'd make you offers since I'd be close enough to drive over and get it.

SniperX,

For context in Sept 2018 I bought a pallet of 13x surplus HPE StorageWorks P4500s (Xeon E5xxx DL360 variants) for ~$300 sans drives or caddies but otherwise complete/functional. Even then I considered the compute a waste of electricity but I wanted the drive bays. I've bought a few batches of L5640s for them since then and never paid more than ~$10 each even at the end of 2018.

One of my jobs at the educational non-profit where I volunteer is selling the computer equipment that gets donated to their thrift store. So, I have at least some experience selling equipment this old. Lately, when we've sold equipment of this generation, I find that there's two types of buyer:

1. Individuals who want to try tinkering with servers/homelabs but don't want to invest a lot of money to start.
2. Small businesses & homelabers that already have some of what you're selling and want to pick up some spares to get just a little more time out of their gear before they upgrade. For example, a small company already running 2950s who can afford to buy a couple cheap units as spares, but can't necessarily afford the time/money to buy and transition to newer servers (true story by the way).

In both cases, the only way I've sold gear this old is to price it down to where its almost free. By that point its less about making any money and more about just keeping it out of the landfill a bit longer to be good to the earth. Shipping something this old is probably out as well, it's just not worth it cost-wise.

I'm guessing the folks here at STH probably aren't the right audience for most of this equipment. You may have better luck on a local marketplace like Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace or other.

As a disclaimer, I'm not affiliated with either of these, just mentioning them as an example.

Yep, pretty much what I've seen too as I fit both 1 and 2. :D

The DAS units usually will hold value much more than servers of the same generation as long as they don't have too many limits like 2TB drive size or 3Gbps backplane, and even then they still retain value since this doesn't prevent their use.

The R7xx series of servers still have value ime for the right buyers, and even the 2950 for the right person at the right price, but the 2950 buyer is usually either just wanting to try out the hobby or picking up a spare for HA tinkering or because it's just too cheap to pass up.

I purchased my original 2950 that came with no memory or drives for $20 in 2016/2017. Cpu upgrades to dual 5160s was only $5 and drives with caddies came out to $10/ea. I found a lot of memory that I got for stupid cheap directly from a liquidator and filled up 2x servers and kept 2x sets as spare and sold the rest that paid for everything else including another 2950, 2x HP DL380 G5 and 2x HPDL360 G5 (same generation as the 2950). So basically I got all this stuff for nearly free except the cost of upgrades. Great setup to play with or even to just use as ultra-reliable desktop endpoints.

The sad part is that people literally do throw away hardware like this that is still capable and running. My personal stance is that working hardware deserves to keep working and there is always a niche for almost any piece of working hardware. It's only when you get into analog modems and stuff like an ISDN router (I've actually still got an Ascend Pipeline 50) that I don't know where they could be used except maybe developing parts of the world.

Like I said earlier, I won't be physically near by until the end of the month, but may be interested depending on what we could work out since I could just drive over and get it.

Please share whatever pricing advice you have. I'll certainly consider it. I just need to open up shelf space quickly.

Gotcha. :) So here's where I would price stuff to move it quickly. You would also need to post these to reddit homelabsales as there are more people interested in the lower end stuff there than here ime. Generally to move stuff quick pricing it for ram+storage seems to work so,

Dell PowerEdge R710 - 4 units
5SSJWR1: (4x 146Gb / 2x 300Gb - all 15k SAS 6gb / 2x E5645 @ 2.4Ghz / 64 Gb RAM) 64GB=$64 + 6x drives at $10/ea for drive+caddy=$60 = $124
F9ZSXR1: (NO DRIVES / 2x X5675 @ 3.06GHz / NO RAM) No drives, no ram...hmmm...price at processors =$40
F9ZQXR1: (NO DRIVES / 2x X5675 @ 3.06GHz / NO RAM) No drives, no ram...hmmm...price at processors =$40
F9ZTXR1: (NO DRIVES / 2x X5675 @ 3.06GHz / NO RAM) No drives, no ram...hmmm...price at processors =$40

PowerEdge R715

D17DXP1: (2x Opteron 6128 @ 2Ghz / 6x 500G SATA / 32Gb RAM) 32GB=$32 + 6x drives at $10/ea for drive+caddy=$60 = $92

PowerEdge 2950 - 3 units

FH1JFG1: (2x 73Gb - 4x 146Gb all@15k SAS [SFF] / 2x E5420 @2.5Ghz / 2Gb RAM) 2GB=$2 + 6x drives at $10/ea for drive+caddy=$60 = $62, but then discount 50% for being older server, so $31
GF7NRF1: (2x 73Gb - 2x 146Gb all@15k SAS [LFF] / 2x E5430 @2.6GHz / 4Gb RAM) 4GB=$4 + 4x drives at $10/ea for drive+caddy=$40 = $44, but then discount 50% for being older server, so $22
8QCJVD1: (2x 73Gb - 3x 146Gb all@15k SAS [LFF] / 2x E5160 @3.0Ghz / 8Gb RAM) 8GB=$8 + 5x drives at $10/ea for drive+caddy=$50 = $58, but then discount 50% for being older server, so $29

For storage, I'm not as well versed but generally pricing it as the cost of the storage plus $50-100 for the chassis, so

PowerVault MD1000
, ST#D9VZ8K1 / 8x 1Tb SATA drives / 6 drive slot blanks / Rack, 3U, 15 Bay External SAS/SATA Storage Array 8TB at $10/TB = $80 + $50 chassis = $130, but this is also an older unit so $80 to move it quick.

PowerVault MD3000
ST:6K22RH1 / 15x 450Gb SAS 15k Drives / External RAID array with two single-port controllers 6.75TB at $10/TB = $68 + $100 chassis = $168

Powervault MD3220 - 2 units
8BSKV12: PowerVault MD3220, / NO CADDIES / NO BLANKS / 6G SAS, 2U- 24 drive, Dual 2G Cache Controller $99
10R8HS1: PowerVault MD3220, / NO CADDIES / 6 BLANKS / 6G SAS, 2U- 24 drive, Dual 2G Cache Controller $99

Equallogic PS6000e
ST#5V9CVL1 / 16x 1Tb 7.2K SATA Drives installed, Dual Controllers 16TB at $10/TB = $160 + $100 chassis = $260, but may be worth more since the last one sold on ebay was 2x+ this price.

I would see first if changing prices wouldn't work as I'd be looking for bulk prices for buying in bulk like that. But I am interested, especially as some of the other stuff may interest me. Feel free to PM me a complete list of stuff if you've got one. :)
