Hello STH community,

I have a Compal SR120-2 server with SP-A121P motherboard (Intel C206 chipset) and I'm struggling with fan control.

**The problem:**
- Fans running at very high RPM (10000+) despite low temperatures (30-32°C)
- BMC web interface has fan control JSON configuration, but changes are ignored
- IPMI raw commands all return "Invalid command" errors

**What I've tried:**
- Multiple JSON configurations with different duty cycles (25%-70%)
- Various IPMI raw commands (0x30 0x45, 0x30 0x91, etc.)
- BMC reset and server reboot
- JSON settings save but don't apply

**BMC Information:**
- Manufacturer ID: 50630 (Compal)
- Product ID: 56413 (0xDC5D)
- Firmware Revision: 2.62
- IPMI Version: 2.0

**What I'm looking for:**
1. Updated BMC firmware for SP-A121P
2. IPMI OEM commands documentation for Compal
3. Any working fan control solutions for this platform
4. Alternative approaches to reduce fan noise

Has anyone worked with this platform or have access to Compal firmware/documentation? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

The problem is that Compal is some Chinese company. There's no support, no contact information, and certainly no updates on their website.

Did you try to asking chatgpt to edit bmc/efi binaries? sometimes you get lucky. Anyway, 1U is not what you should be looking if you want a silent server... never ever.

can you dump the BMC FW and extract the linux part ?
in supermicro/gigabyte firmware package i see ipmi elf file which can by recompiled to see raw cmd.

read dump from BMC chip.
search for ROMFS or other filesystem header, extract with 7z.
elf can be recomplied with ghidra.

Можно ли сделать дамп прошивки BMC и заменить часть Linux?
в пакете прошивки supermicro/gigabyte я вижу файл ipmi elf, который можно перекомпилировать, чтобы увидеть необработанный cmd.

Я не совсем понимаю, о чем вы говорите. Сам я, наверное, не справлюсь.
