Checking online for a portable commercial NAS today and saw this from Seagate: Wireless Hard Drive, iPad Hard Drive | Seagate

Here's the quick rundown:
1. USB 3.0 drive
2. 1TB capacity using a mobile drive so seems like it is small
3. 10 hour battery
4. Makes its own wifi hotspot so you can connect up to 8 devices with it

Looks like it's about $180 or so: Amazon.com: Seagate Wireless Plus 1 TB Mobile Device Storage with Built-In Wi-Fi Streaming (STCK1000100): Computers & Accessories

Handy since you wouldn't need to fumble with USB drives and can leave in a briefcase.

Anyone try these things? I wonder if you can swap the case out for a SSD. Too bad Seagate doesn't sell those.

Any idea what the range is on the WiFi? Is there an AC version coming out soon?

I'd imagine that is a hard dollar value to handle for a lot of people. To me a TLC drive might actually be much more useful because then you would have lower power and something rugged enough to leave in the briefcase.

Also, battery powered, I was just thinking, this would be a freaking awesome automobile NAS. Just leave it plugged in and viola.
