While I would love to stick it to Seagate for those crappy doorstops, the cynic in me says it won't go to trial...

the irony is when i was running WD raptors/vraptors i never had one that didn't fail... we are talking about years upon years of drives in my computers, parents, clients, friends, etc... they ALL FAILED eventually and not 5+ years later all <5. At that point in time I would still NOT trade them for anything though :)

you'll hate hearing this, but I've got an 80GB velociraptor that's been in 24/7 use for 3 years and no hiccups yet :p

Same issues.... Had a WD Raptor 150Gb in 2005. In 2007 it failed and the joke is that it was waterccoled. The drive was never hotter than 41-42 celsius... And it was 200 us dollar...

I purchased 6 x ST3000DM001's in Nov 2012 for my personal NAS. As of last week. the 6th one has died on me. Every single one dead. Only 1 out of 6 died before warranty ended. Its replacement is still running, but I expect failure within a year. Chinese part numbers (1CH166) had 1 year warranty and the Thailand (9YN166) had 2 year. I got 2 x 9YN166's and 4 x 1CH166's. All their purchased replacements (Toshiba and HGST 3TB's) are running great so far. I filled out the form for the class action, but I don't expect anything to come from it.

On a side note the 4 x 300GB velociraptors I purchased for a office server long ago (2009?) still running 24x7.
