I bought an SC836TQ chassis (SC040 dell compellent)

i would install MCP-240-83605-0N (rear window) + MCP-220-83605-0N (hdd cage) in order to have 2 additionnal 2.5'' hdd bay.
Is it possible even on a chassis that is not a 836B version ? anyone have feedback ?

I would install also
- MCP-220-83601-0B
- MCP-290-00036-0B
- MCP-220-00023-01

For having 5x 2.5'' bay in addition to the 16x 3.5''

@nephri
I have a 836 chassis as well and I would like to do that. Where would you get this rear window from?

And in addition:
Would you happen to know a source for a according SC 846B rear window? Part number should be: MCP-240-84602-0N

@nephri You are right, but you don't have a source where you could actually buy those, have you?

So you can probably just contact supermicro support and ask if they provide you one.
Perhaps we could order together if that helps (divide shipping or something like that), as I am in europe too.

For now, i haven't really found a good deal for them.

As-Discount have them but the price are high:
- MCP-220-83605-0N : 74.52€ (wrong reference ?)

i did'nt yet find seller for MCP-220-83605-0N...

At this stage i study the possibility.

yes i thinked about this B on the name after asking it.. i'm feeling a bit stupid :p
So, since mine it's a TQ, it seems to be only in rev A version.

Did you try the cage + the rear window or only the cage ?

I have 836BA, but if you're doing SSD's for zil/slog, use the adapters for the front where the dummy fdd/hdd, you can actually add 3 more ssd drives there. They are sorta hotswap in a way since the tray slides out if you put the tab from inside, but of course no backplane so you got to manually disconnect the cables.

Lol, I think you sniped me on that one. Anyway... while it is an 836 chassis, it's not a normal SKU. The 836TQ backplane with 1200w psu's is not a normal configuration. That being said, at least on mine there is the space for the dual 2.5" sleds.

Like many other storage vendors that use rebranded supermicro gear they sometimes use stock skus, sometimes use custom orders, and sometimes change their supermicro chassis but not change their branded sku to customers. Ie the older CT-030 chassis is an 836TQ-based chassis but if it's an older chassis you need the wide rails and if it's a late model you'll get the narrow rails.

Am I correct in assuming that the B chassis has a removable plate where the drive bay goes?

Thanks. Means I have the A chassis so the velcro will stay.
