I recently picked up some SC523L-520b chassis in hopes of replacing some substandard PlinkUSA chassis. Unfortunately the power supply that comes with these (the PWS-521-1H) is very loud, even when the system isn't running. I figured I could replace it with the 500W PSU (the PWS-505P-1H) that comes with the SC523L-501b, but then I realized that the depths are different so it's not a perfect fit.

With in this in mind, I'm looking at more options like the PWS-350-1H, PWS-441P-1H, PWS-601-1H. I'm hoping that the 441 and 350 will run quieter given their platinum rating, but I'm curious if anyone else is using these supplies and the type of noise they're seeing.

Have you worked on any of your ideas yet?

Have you considered using an -SQ PSU instead, which should be significantly more quiet?

Yes, I have. I ended up purchasing 6 SC523L-520b for $125-$150/ea (deals thread link). I've only built out 2 of them so far, one with a SuperMicro X11SCH-f board, and the other with a X10SRL-f board. I believe the -SQ power supplies you're referring to are not designed for this chassis, so I've been sticking to the PWS-351-1H and PWS-441P-1h which have worked well for me.

Pretty sure I'd replaced my PWS-521-1H power supplies with PWS-563-1H units. 80+ Gold and 560w, in case you need the additional power, but the 351-1Hs are plenty good enough for most uses without a lot of drives.

The PWS-563 is not the correct width (76mm vs 100mm) and would leave a gap on the rear of the chassis. I believe only the PWS-505P-1H and PWS-601-1H are vailable options at 500+ watts according to the Power Supply Matrix. I prefer the PWS-441P-1H the most, as it's 80+ Platinum, supports SMBus, and is the closest wattage I can find that's appropriate for my system (single socket, 1X GTX 1650, and a few NVMe U.2 SSDs)

Edit: Now I'm really confused. Gonna go dig through the old parts box.

Edit 2: Okay, figured it out. I had a 521-1H20 that I replaced with a 351-1H, and I replaced an ancient PWS-701-1R in an SC815TQ that only had a 20-pin for the PDB. So I pulled the PDB and the hot-swap and put in a 563-1H, which fit perfectly. That took it from louder than hell to reasonable and efficient for really cheap.

So, sorry for all the noise, don't mind me. :)
