After 15 years in my 1st career, + >1 decade in a second career (>20 projects), I start my 3rd career (because why not) in a sector that is begging to be shaken up. Why would I put in the money? the answer is a 3-letter-word that everybody hates.

In tribute to BlueFox for the best compliments ever made, the 1st "Quartet" (group of 4 machines) as well as the 1st project they deliver shall both be called "BlueFox Fantasy."

Calculators please...

Machine 1 Code named Fatherboard
Machine 2 & 3: Twin Machines T1 & T2, code named i386 and RolloZ170
Machine 4 code named Kapone

I had to find the right picture angle for the-apparently-exciting-numbers to be visible:

BLUEFOX FANTASY RAM.jpg

Still waiting for storage manufacturers to... manufacture. Less than 61TB drives won't cut it. But I think I may have found something.

Truly amused by some comments about trolling, flattered by the disbelief. I will miss that.
It appears my account was put on a slow-down timer in the forum, that's another compliment.
I actually first thought yesterday my account was disabled, that would have been the ultimate unparalleled flattering compliment, unfortunately that didn't happen, not yet.

What next? Thanks to Patrick and Kapone who both triggered the following thought in my head yesterday:

Taking automotive as example:
  • E-ATX/SSI consumer Workstation = Car/SUV, too small, but good for those who need it, not me.
  • Traditional rack = Truck, too big, bulky, noisy.., but good for those who need it, not me.
I need and will make a custom hybrid thing, and I've already sent a request to a factory. Or is it perhaps another fantasy?

I have no pricing info yet. In automotive terms it's neither a car/suv (E-ATX workstation) nor a truck (rack), but something more like this:

This could be my last thread/post, if you're interested to know more about the hybrids I'll order, let me know.

You're not special. It's been doing that for all of us in the last ~24 hours.

what the **** is this wall of autism I am reading
It wasn't for you, you've missed a lot, missed the context. You can go back to what you were doing.
I get it, out of context it might appear strange, but context is everything.

This was exclusively for a select few that over a few months have sabotaged almost every question I ask.
This unusual thread has one and only one point: the calculator vs the out-of-the-blue repeated accusation that I, not sure why me a former advisor of the executive board of a major oil company, cannot spend 100K on hardware.

It's amusing the humongous difference in response maturity I see between some members here and elsewhere. And it seems to be widely tolerated. Is this an invitation to me to do the same? is this forum monitored @Patrick ? or is the Spam hunter @BlueFox specialised in accusing people they can't spend money?

Is it illegal or impolite to do things differently? or does it feel like an insult to the tradition? a bit like "How dare you think differently"?
No.

1. I feel…honored? That there’s a machine with my name on it?
2. There’s still something not…right…about this and it’s not about money. It’s about ignorance, arrogance and sheer stupidity. But…I’ll reserve judgement on where this is going.
3. @fatherboard - $100K is nothing to me. I’ve got more money than that into my infra. Quite a bit more. And I’m not an advisor to anybody. Own my own business. :)

So, that doesn’t impress me at all. In fact, assuming this is real, I’m shaking my head even more that somebody is willing to blow $100K on something that they know jack shit about. But…I’ve seen worse in Vegas…so…carry on.

You should read through their post history.
Yes, he should review "their" post (not sure why the plural though, "their").
How dare "they" think differently? "they" must be banned from ... whatever ... everything, "they" shouldn't even exist, "their" opinion shouldn't exist...
"They" don't think like us. No, I don't like hearing an opinion other than mine.

Is this what I hear you saying?
Oh dear, I knew I would come across things from a few people, but not this level, I'm discovering new limits, it's one huge gap there.

I am not sure I followed this whole thing.
You should read through their post history.
If he doesn't get it, he should read your own words and see what the whole thing is about. You'll notice I didn't suggest what conclusions he should draw. I think that was very neutral. If you want to imagine things, get excited over nothing, or try stir things up, go ahead. Have fun!

@Tegan, I don't know how to thank you.
Let me tell them as well in big letters.

This is fatherboard, it's me, please whoever reads this message, go to the tab Tegan is showing on my own profile, the profile of fatherboard, and please press that wonderful button "ignore". Please. this is not some sort of a joke, or me try to make fun of Tegan, I wouldn't do that. I really mean it. Thank you.

@Tegan much appreciated. You are going to save me a tone of time, many thanks, I really mean it, I owe you one. I'm sure you will understand why I'm saying that.

ignorance, arrogance and sheer stupidity
Tegan came up with a wonderful idea, there is an "ignore" button on my profile, I didn't know this magic button was there.
You know you could use it, especially for my "ignorance, arrogance and sheer stupidity". That would save you, I mean you, a tone of time.

Nah. This is pure entertainment… why would I ignore it?

@kapone got it right. I see only ignorance, arrogance and sheer stupidity. I for myself can just hope there are no other people suffering from this foolish waste of money. I've seen a lot, I mean really a lot in my 30 years in system administration, but everything technical pales in the foolishness of people who should know better and react ... poorly .. to well meant advice.
Cutting edge hardware does not do anything by itself and in five to seven years this glorious pile of high tech will go for a few bucks on ebay.

Dunning-Kruger ?

The Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which people with limited competence in a particular domain overestimate their abilities. It was first described by the psychologists David Dunning and Justin Kruger in 1999. Some researchers also include the opposite effect for high performers' tendency to underestimate their skills. In popular culture, the Dunning–Kruger effect is often misunderstood as a claim about general overconfidence of people with low intelligence instead of specific overconfidence of people unskilled at a particular task.

This thread was about a troll that claims a fantasy, not able to buy a thing.

All of a sudden it changes to foolishness, stupidity, doomed projects ...

There is fixation on the person. If he is not a troll, let me find something else "he is foolish, I don't know him, I don't know what he is doing with the machines, but he must be foolish, because I said so, why? no idea I just want him to look foolish".

Do you thing a foolish guy will be paid serious money by Oil companies to tell a $4 Billion IT programme manager what he's doing wrong in his $4Billion programme? Sure, if you spend 30 years in IT Admin, many things are going to look foolish.

Then I get to hear from an IT dude my projects are doomed to fail, he doesn't even know what sector I'm in, what I'm doing with the machines, how they will be used? It's the fixation on the person, just like that out of the blue without any info "your projects must be doomed". Sure, if I weren't a Certified PMP, with north of 20 projects, telling $4Billion programme managers what not to do, and got paid big money for it.

The only difference between stupid and clever is the result:
For people: You fail, you're stupid, you succeed, you're clever. Period.
The journey, if you look back without the result, it's for most people "ignorance, arrogance and sheer stupidity".

Do you have the slightest idea who you are talking to? so based on what do you make your assessment? The result is assessed in another sector, it's not an IT/server thing, so you are not even qualified to assess the result, success vs failure, or foolishness vs whatever, that sector where I've spent about a decade, has its own experts and criteria for success. They will decide, not you.
Whether a "pro-server-set-up-as-per-some-old-rules" was used or a machine with duct-tape is irrelevant, no one will find out and no one cares ... I won't be paid for that. Look at the machines! something wrong? if they work, they work! So what's foolish? what makes the projects doomed? the machines? me getting these machines to work? or me not doing it your way? or worse is it a fixation on the person, kind of the primary school style bullying fixation.

What do you call "well meant advice"? calling someone a troll? sabotaging every question? go back to some responses and see the immaturity.

Be the last to show your cards, that's how you read the room, and when you do show, show just one card then read the room again, whoever changes position ...
