I have an old HP N40L MicroServer that is still going strong, right now running FreeNAS 11.3. I just replaced the drives in it (and am resilvering the last one as I write this) after one failed and decided to start thinking about what other upgrades I could do to extend its useful life a bit longer. I'd like to get a secondary RAID of SSDs going so that I could use them as a cache for metadata, but I only have one remaining SATA connector (the one for the optical disk drive).
It seems like I have a couple options:

It seems like I have a couple options:
- Get a SATA card to go in one of the PCIe slots and use that to install an additional drive beyond the one I could slip in the ODD.
- Get a card that supports dual M2 SSDs and use that as my SSD RAID. (Reading the forum, it sounds like if the motherboard doesn't have a PLX chip (which I've never read about before), I'd need one on the M2 adapter card in order to support two SSDs on it, correct?)
