I'm in the process of rebuilding my home server and i'm looking at the SAS2208 and SAS3108 cards. Is there any reason to spend the extra money on the SAS3108 cards?

My setup will be 6-8x 10TB WD Whites, shucked from WD EasyStore's. I haven't decided what RAID level, either 6 or 10. This is replacing an aging 12 drive (+1 hot spare) Raid 5 array made up of 3TB disks and a Areca 1280. The server doesn't see any intense use. It's running windows 10 and is used for various home type things. (Plex, PC backups, Photography business, etc)

I'm looking at primarily the LSI 9270CV-8i and IBM M5210, both from eBay. The price difference seems to be about $100.

Thoughts? Thanks in advance!

No not really. SAS2 is fine for spinning drives. SAS3 is when you are getting MANY SSD's or are going for SAS3 SSD's.
Keep in mind though, max seq speed is around 2200MB/s for the SAS2 controllers.

Thanks! I'll stick with the SAS2 controllers. Honestly, i'm fine with the speed of the array I have now, just figured i'd upgrade to something a litter newer since it's a new array.
