I saw the great thread here on STH about the PM953 480GB drives for $90 each. There's a quantity of new drives for $180 that have twice the capacity *NEW* Samsung PM953 MZQLV960HCJH 960GB M.2 SSD MZ-1LV9600 | eBay

For comparison here's the nextgen pm963 for $270 NEW Samsung PM963 960GB M.2 NVMe PCIe Enterprise SSD 110mm MZ-1LW9600 1TB | eBay

If you've got M.2 110mm you might want 2x the capacity. If so, these drives are 2x the capacity at 2x the price.

I'm new so I didn't want to post in someone else's thread about a different deal. Here's the original 480gb thread https://forums.servethehome.com/index.php?threads/480gb-m-2-with-plp-finally-under-100.20631/

It's got a discussion on power loss of pm953 m.2's.

I'm wondering if people are getting these for their desktop/laptop or are using them in servers. If it's in servers, is a pci-e card that holds one or two nvme drives being used? If if were possible to use them in existing 3.5 caddy slots than that makes more sense to me. I haven't checked into if such a thing exists. Anyhow, just curious.

Most of the new servers have 1-2 m.2 slots on board.

Laptops generally support 80mm (m.2 2280) form factors, as do SFF PCs like NUCs.

Consumer motherboards often support 22110 like these. There are also addon cards that can take one or more M.2 drives.

The lack of PMP on these is very interesting. I've been looking at these for myself makes but this makes it useless now. Shame, but I'm glad you posted that, thank you!
Lack of PMP and the horrible feedback that seller has, yikes.

Just need to find a decent priced PCIe adapter card with room for 4 of these NVMe cards to go in a server or my desktop.

$62 .... https://www.amazon.com/Hyper-M-2-x1...24&sr=8-3&keywords=asus+m.2+pcie+adapter+card

Needs 4x4x4x4x bifurication support on the mobo though.
I thought that only 4x4x4x4x bifurication support was required as well, but that is not the case. I have quite a few servers with the support(Dell, SMC and Intel) that I tried to get the card running with and I was never able to get all 4 m.2 devices to be detected. Maybe others have had better luck, but with XeonV1+2 based servers I was not able to get more than 2 drives to be available.

Due to frustration the card sits next to my desk collecting dust. I'll try it again when I build a new workstation, but it'll be a while. The build quality of the card is fantastic though.

In Sept,
I picked up 4 x @$62 each with BO , then another 4 SSD @$60 each BO, combined with 10% coupon.
It is OK drive with today's standard.

Anyone know if these drives support legacy bios boot like the Samsung 950 Pro does? I would love to drop 2 of these in an adapter to use in a Supermicro X8DTL-iF to get around the onboard SataII.
