From Kalleyomalley? Link?
No, other seller on ebay. I thought $25/16GB DIMM was the sweet spot these days? I was okay with $35/16GB so I bought the seller out completely; just got a box of 30 DIMMs today - haven't tested them yet though hopefully none are bad.

Not sure where or how. Just did a search for closed/sold auctions, looks like at least what's listed is showing $52/stick. Would love to know which vendor you got yours from in case they have more.

That's what I'm trying to figure out as well. But the guy comes in, lips off, and leaves, with no backup to his claim :) A simple link would be all anyone would like, jeez :)

16GB ECC DDR3, but PC3-8500 - I got 6x 16GB (96GB) for $100 a couple of weeks ago:
EDGE 96GB (16GBx6)DDR3 PC3-8500R ECC REG Server Memory 16GE604R04 | eBay
Quad Rank, and slow, but still a pretty nice price. I use these in systems with only 8 slots to get them a bump where more is better than fast (eg: Dell R510 with 4 DIMM/CPU). $100 is a good price as far as I'm concerned, but totally different from 2Rx8 12800 stuff. If I hadn't recently bought the 24 I need this month for a project, I'd be seeing what offers kalleyomalley would accept :)

you guys need to up your ebay search-foo:

Hynix 16GB DDR3 (1x16GB) 2Rx4 PC3-12800R ECC Server Memory HMT42GR7MFR4C-PB | eBay

SAMSUNG 16GB PC3L-12800R DDR3-1600 ECC Registered 1.35V RDIMM M393B2G70QH0-YK0 | eBay

Hynix 16GB DDR3 (1x16GB) PC3L-12800R ECC Server Memory HMT42GR7BFR4A-PB | eBay

potentially negotiables:

Hynix 16GB DDR3 (1x16GB) PC3L-12800R ECC Server Memory HMT42GR7BFR4A-PB | eBay

M393B2G70QH0-YK0Q8 SAMSUNG 16GB (1X16GB) 2RX4 DDR3-1600 PC3L-12800R MEMORY | eBay

MT36KSF2G72PZ-1G6E1FE MICRON 16G (1X16G) 2RX4 PC3L-12800R MEMORY | eBay

Or, better yet, what I do is get a list of certified ram part numbers, for example I was looking for RAM for my X9DR3-LN4F+ and these were the Hynix parts search string:

(hmt42gr7afr4a-pb,hmt42gr7mfr4a-pb,hmt42gr7bfr4a-pb,hmt42gr7dfr4a-pb)

I then also select a price range, I'm usually targeting $25-$35/16GB, so I'll set my range $0-$80. The reason for the $80 is to catch doubles... some sellers like to sell pairs for less, so I want to catch the pairs for $70-ish. I will also take that search and do a highest price to low price sort, because I want to look for the guys selling in bulk (often at a lower per unit price), say like a set of 16 DIMMs. obviously, also look at the list sorted from lowest price to high too, but that's obvious.

What's everybody using 12800 in ? E5 v2's ?
Only ask since I pulled the lid off a E5-2670 just now and it was 10800 so assume that's what we were buying at the time.

Fast is not cheap but slower stuff is cheap, always a trade off speed and dimm size vs price.
DDR4 still more than double the price of ddr3

Not only that, but depending on how many DIMMs you have per channel, there are speed limits and automatic down clocking. So, if one plans to max out all the DIMM slots, one should check what's the max speed for that configuration and save by not buying anything faster than that. Also, see what's the max speed the CPU you have can handle. take all those factors and then find the lowest common denominator, find the part numbers you want, and apply above ebay search technique to find best prices.

@BLinux good point, populate the 3rd channel nearly always drops the max speed. E5-2670 is 12800 speed but if you add a lot of memory and get bumped down to 10800 as you say may as well only pay for that.

Given ddr3 systems are not likely to see the memory deployed to a new processor now then you can assume it's life will be for the life of the system.

people buying DDR4 could potentially still use that memory in the next generation hardware, especially if say 32gb rdimm at 2400 then could be still useful for the new processors.
