So the seller account is still "on vacation" mode, but he somehow went into ebay and added a tracking number on July 4th - which is invalid and is not tracking anything.

What do you guys suggest to do? The only option on the website is "Return the item" but it it will never arrive of course and there is no option for "item never arrived"

If you file item not received, it's very likely the seller will produce yet another tracking number that matches your ZIP. eBay will then expect you to jump through multiple hoops to prove the tracking does not correspond to your address.

I would wait until Saturday and see if the seller is still active. Let others do the complaining to eBay. He's already getting negative feedback. It's a bit shady, but the easiest solution is to claim not as described and request a return. You'll need to supply a photo of something and be prepared to ship something back. The return address will probably be bogus as well. You should get your refund after the first return scan. It's then the seller who has to jump through the hoops to prove you returned something different.

The negative feedback is piling up. I got a refund. I had communicated with the seller previously.

thanks i called ebay and after 20 minutes they refunded me. Seller never responded or communicated with me.
