Hi, i recently bought a 1u rack with a rebranded S8036GM2NE-LE to Hyve motherboard, i repasted the cpu (7642), managed to get bios reset, but the bios is different than regular tyan bios, its missing a lot of options such as minimum fan speed, temp readings and such, bmc has sensor readings but no fan settings, bmc says its ver 2.0 i tried updating to 4.0 risking because i read there are some 4.0 issues with chip size, the update failed immidiately, i guess because it doesnt recognize it as valid firmware because of brand mismatch, hyve brand is used in cloudflare servers, thats about everything i know, im very new to the world of servers but would like to learn more, the way i managed to get access to BMC is thru ipmi change password command for user 2, what would be the best way to update the bios and bmc if possible, if not what would be the best way to tune fans from OS? thanks in advance
Just found out that they are probably oem boards sold to hyve as hs-1811d boards, bcm is openbcm, i dont know if thats the case with mitac board
it doesnt respond to fan command from ipmi for tyan boards, if anyone can help with any insight i would appreciate it.
Is there a way to force mitac bios and bmc on this board and would that be advisable, especially if there is chance the cpu is locked?

fortunaly the Formware chips are in sockets.
remove and make backups/dumps. buy new chip and flash them outside (ch341a or better flasher with SIOC16 adapter)
if not what would be the best way to tune fans from OS?
on server board with BMC the BIOS and OS has nothing todo with FAN speeds, what if CPU is dead or just OS crashed ? all harddisk overheating ?

i built pcs all my life but never mangled with the servers, i guess one is bios chip and the other one is bmc firmware chip, i do have the ch341a.

the board looks identical to tyan 8036 but i dont know i the cross bios update would work even theoretically since this is an oem board

BMC printed near one chip ? if yes, this is BMC FW chip.
you can see in the Hex view of the dump which is BIOS.
but do not touch the original FW chips, buy spare ones (digikey, ebay, etc)

i ordered a few bios chips, i have a few of these servers on hand, in the mean time is there anythin i can try with ipmi to get highe fan speeds, i think its as low as 15% and when it ramps up it only ramps up to 50 or 60% and cpu is 90 C

you need a 64mb BMC chip
Code:
Note 1:
If you are upgrading BMC from old version RR11.5 to v4.00 R12 code base, it could only use socflash for the update due to different code size. After BMC is upgraded to v4.00, all socflash/yafuflash/WEB works.
Important!

Note 2:
The BMC firmware v4.00 requires 64MB BMC chip. Deploying BMC firmware v4.00 to earlier GC68-B8036 system with 32MB BMC chip shall cause permanent system failure and the system cannot be revived in the field.

The BMC firmware v4.00 CANNOT be deployed to GC68-B8036 system with 32MB BMC chip. Please be sure to check the S/N of your GC68-B8036 system by reading FRU data under Product Information before updating. You can refer to GC68-B8036 shipment SN with 32MB BMC ROM.xls file for how to check if your GC68-B8036 is using 32MB BMC chip after downloading and unzipping the BMC firmware v4.00.

1931 is batch manuf.date.
you have 32mb BIOS(ok)
and BMC chip 32mb(not OK for V4 Firmware)
you need w25q512jvfq(w25q512jvfiq) chip
after flashing and replace with original chip you have to set original BMC MAC (ipmitool, ipmiutil) from local host(same machine) to re-enable BMC NIC function.

i put the clip over the pinout and put a clip to hold it over it, i flashed 8 pin chips before with no problem, driver is installed

the only thing is this programmer supplies 5v and chip is 3.3v other ones were 3.3 with no problem, maybe this one is more sensitive

no i put the chip on the breakout board in the picture, where it says sop16, and put like an aligator clip to hold it in place

You were right about the contact, im just posting this reply if someone else is trying to program the same chip with ch341a black programmer, it works! i designed and 3d printed small clips to hold ic feet down to the breakout board, using asprogrammer 2.1.0.13 i programmed the bmc firmware 4 file to 25q512jvfq. If i replace the bios 25q256jvfq with 25q512jvfq it should work too? Thanks for the help so far
