Hi Guys,

i have 2 s4510 3.84 ssd, updated with latest intel formware.

i can buy an another 3.84 TB drive, s4510 dellemc branded, i plan to update it with the latest dell formware.

I want to use them as raidz1 drive in an LSI controller under truenas.

Is it possible to use them together, could you tell me please, if a compatibility or operating issue is expected?

Thank you in advance.

(it is not a DELL server, it is asrockrack with storage controller card).

It should work. "Should" because you don't know how the dell versions might behave because of the different firmmware.

I tried to chat with intel support, they didnt get exact answer, they started to bullshit about warranty, and firmware update. I told them, i know, all is manufactured by intel, and they give general s4510 firmware (with 5 year warranty), but they give the source code to the brands (DELL etc.), because they only can customize the firmware if they have a source code. Only i want to know, they are working together or not in the same array.

The support representative tried to send me to the motherboard manufacturer, i told them, it is not motherboard problem, its only compatinbility problem of their ssd.

Dell inserts custom identification to their ssd, ("signed firmware"), thats, why Dell stuff is mostly limited using by their own branded hardware. Good example of locking Epyc cpu-s to Dell server, when you put it in a Dell.
