Against the advice of a well regarded member here of getting these ES ssd drives I decided not to balk on a offer for 3x 800gb Intel DC s3600's and roll the dice...wait I know your thinking 'what there is no Intel DC s3600'...and I'd concur, there seems to be some mysterious absence of these out in 'the wild' and there is slim to no info online about them. For the pricepoint I could not complain as they seem to be right in lockstep w/ s3610's perf/spec wise. Brand new, zero pwr on hrs, zero host reads/writes/etc. Maybe I just got lucky, maybe I am livin' on the edge/borrowed time hahah but for 25% of retail cost of these drives I HAD to bite. Running in my upgraded vSAN AFA config now. Screenshots attached in case anyone can shine anymore light on the history of these drives and why no mass market release was ever reached? It's almost like they were like 'well we have these 3600's, and yeah they address the gap between the s3500 and s3700...but we are right on the cusp of the 3510/3710 release so let's nix these and go w/ a major release on the 3610's'.

Just my guess, I did find some import/export pdf doc w/ the PN of the s3600's in them but damn near nothing else. Enjoying roughly 4-6 second boot times on my vSAN pool w/ 3 node config, each node having a 200GB Intel DC s3700 for cache and a 800GB s3600 for capacity...thing FLYS!

In case anyone is interested or as brave/stupid as me (depending on how you look at it, I am backing up all data for sure until I gain trust in the drives) here are some screenshots of atto/AS/crystal for performance comparison as well as the ebay link/seller. Can anyone tell me if these seems to look identical or damn close to what a 800GB s3610 specs/outputs at?

New Intel 800GB DC S3600 SSD SATA 2 5" SSDSC2MG800G3 Solid State Drive S3500 | eBay

Got em' for $215 on a counter offer, he didnt bite @ $200.

Much appreciated, I didn't run HDTune but the other three tools 'seem' to match close from my high level analysis.

SCORE! Has all SMART info but no warranty of course, I'm game.

The intel ssd toolbox tool also properly detected it as a s3600 so that is reassuring and seemed to think it had proper/most recent firmware.

What is odd is that the drives clearly came 'buffed' on the label for some reason where you would see typical manufacturer info/etc, just certain spots, almost can't notice it but there was a small amount of residue left from the buff job and you can clearly see the outline of a buff-job. hah

On a side note...why do I cringe/feel like a silly ass every time I bolt up a 2.5" drive in my 3.5" norco sleds GRRR

You're lucky! I'd love to be able to mount 2.5" drives in my norco sleds. Unfortunately I have first gen 4220's, with some of the worst drive sleds I've ever used. But the chassis's are tanks. One of them is almost 10 years old now.

Search ebay for 654540-001

then you can mount the 2,5's in your norco sleds
