The timing of this drive's failure isn't too timely as I just missed the Black Friday 14TB Easystore deals. I have a shucked WD80EFAX that is out of warranty and it continues to degrade in my R510. 14TB drives seem to give the best $/TB ratio right now, and ServerPartDeals on ebay is selling recertified 14TB Exos X16 drives for $250. Only a 1 year warranty though. The speed bump over the 5400rpm WD will be nice as this drive is likely to be where I write my desktop backups via 10Gb. No concern with noise as the server sits in my basement. I also have about $50 in ebay bucks to put towards it. Any other drives I should consider before pulling the trigger on this one?

Again, the WD80EFAX is just a 7200 rpm drive performing at a slower speed.

If you really want an Exos, go get the Seagate Expansion 16TB. They have Exos 16TB inside, and brand new, not used like the one you mentioned.

And people have found that the drives inside these enclosures will report a 3yr warranty by serial number. I haven't seen any experience on if Seagate will honor that though.
