Long shot, but anyone know how to find or where text like 'HELLO WORLD' might appear to the right of any running application icons but just to the left of the calendar and time text? I'm trying to do a last step in a virus removal and I'm pretty sure all the infected files are gone just it missed a registry entry.

It could be an empty folder created as a toolbar. Do you have a screenshot?

Welcome. The taskbar information is stored as a binary blob in

Code:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Streams\Desktop

Not a clue. This seems to be true binary data. If it were just text stored as hex, should be easy to just convert the hex to ascii.
