Hey,

Not sure if this is the correct forum, but the CPU and MOBO are a big part of the question...

I'm looking to buy a home server to installed with proxmox to cover the following needs:
  • pfsense
  • unifi
  • NAS
  • plex
  • home assistant
And have two leading candidates, both with pros and cons:
  • HPE proliant microsever gen10 plus (Xeon)
  • Supermicro AS-5019D-FTN4 (AMD EPYC 3251)
I don't have a need for 10gb networking, so thought about installing a HW raid controller for 4 NAS drives.

Both have a similar price, so I guess my question is which would be more suitable for this task?

Thanks a lot in advance!

I would consider IPMI/BMC as an important requirement for the motherboard.

Do you need the server to be quiet?

Perhaps I am wrong but you can save a lot of money on by using old/retired servers. Some of them are also actually very quiet.

As something that just works (although less memory capability) I really like the HPE micro server gen10+
Small, quiet, well built.
HPE well supported, I think you can read about the AMD support, does depend what features you wound use and for you use case I guess not an issue.
