I'm currently using a hp mini PC with an external enclosure running 2 X 22tb drives.

It's pretty basic 6500t system.

But think I'd feel a bit safer with drives in a case.

I don't really use it for much download files via Usenet onto 2.5" SSD then goes to my mirrored 22tbs which Plex does it thing with.

I'm in Australia so no chance of fast internet any time soon (on 100mbs) so even 2.5gbs would be over kill.

I'm not sure if I should go a n150/n305 system or go another Intel system 8/9ths gen or newer.

Ideally~ 400usd for mobo and CPU.

I'm tempted to see if I can mount my current set up in an itx case then run a few adaptors.

So likely this is about as basic as it comes. It's just hard to keep track of latest best bang for deals.

My lab nas is built on an n100 board, seems to work fine to almost 10gbps speeds (probably limited by the drives). I think you'll find that an n150 or n3x5 will be more power efficient in the long run and probably give you most of what you need. Transcoding might be the only place the 10th gen Intel (or newer) might be winning, these low power nXXX processors don't have as much grunt as the full power desktop cpus. And generally they don't have enough PCI lanes to just add a GPU to handle the transcodes. The n3xx might have more, but I haven't really looked into this as it's not a workflow I'm currently using.
