I'm trying to figure out what controller is the most recommended nowadays for my use case, that is also readily available in the used market (bonus points if it's sold by Chinese sellers and known to work, or be flashable to LSI firmware).

The host is a ESXi system running on an old-ish Supermicro MB with PCI-E 2.0 only, and while I would like to have something that can migrate to a newer PCI-E 3 based MB, I'm still going to dry out the Westmere CPUs in this one before that happens.

I intend to run RAID5 and RAID1 with SAS and SATA SSDs mostly. No spinners. I know this affects the decision a fair bit. I was thinking the 927x models do the trick with a BBU and cachecade, but maybe there is something cheaper out there.

Thanks for the advice in advance!
