Maybe these units were headed from Access to e-waste and someone dumpster dove or an enterprising e-waster tested a couple using a straight up poe injector or power supply and got them to work so salvaged them all.
I think this is likely the case. I mean, the seller yall bought these from is literally named "fast scrap". Given in several years of the ruckus wifi thread not a single failure like this has been reported, but from this lot there's like....ten...it's highly likely this was a known bad batch Access Networks (or an integrator) removed from installations and had marked for disposal

Yeah I’m totally convinced these are RMA devices that somehow got resold. The seller sent me two in exchange for two busted ones. One of them worked over PoE but had some weird behavior when being adopted, and the other wouldn’t work over PoE. Felt bad for the seller but all six of mine are going back, even the “working” ones, which were giving me worse performance than my Omada WiFi 6 devices.

Update:
I reached out to the seller and requested a exchange and they ended up refunding me without requiring me to send back the access point.
So I went ahead and opened it up and probed it, I determined that the PD70224 chip for PoE was damaged (On the backside of the board, if you need help locating it see here).
I went ahead and ordered a replacement chip and replaced the one on the board and it works flawlessly now!
So if you have a AP that won't power on with PoE and have similar circumstances as me I'd recommend giving this a shot.
thanks again for the tip on this. Looks like the magic smoke came out of one of mine...

so I just replaced this (first time with a rework station!) and plugged it into a brocade switch that it wouldn't work with it and it immediately booted up. So for those of you with "picky" versions of these, it's most likely that this chip is kaputt.

EDIT: also noticed it fixed a weird issue where the tx speed would drop significantly after a few seconds during sustained copies. Seems to be fixed now!

In case anyone wants to buy my 4 broken A750 in Europe / Germany to fix them, let me know...

Even if they're fixed, they won't be useful to me, because I cannot fully trust them.

I got a Quick 861dw. It seemed well regarded but likely overkill -- you could probably get a cheap amazon one too. You definitely need a microscope though!!

I bought a WEP 8786D-I rework station for $60. Worked great for this! I did it without a microscope, but would have been easier with one. There were white boxed lines around the chip that helped me line it up. The first one went without a hitch, lucked into it I guess. The second one didn't quite take and the chip fell off ^_^ - had to redo that. The bottom of the hold chips were warped and you could tell why they stopped working. Both have been running for 24h now on PoE+ (before one unit only ran on PoE++ and the other was DOA). I'll let them run for a week on PoE+ and then PoE++ to ensure they're fully repaired.

nice! Does the r750 even accept poe++? I thought it was just a poe+ access point. Or are you just testing to see if it'll successfully negotiate down with a poe++ port?

previously they would only power up through 802.3bt Class6 Poe++ ports on my switches. now they power up on my 802.3af/at Class4 Poe+ ports.
