I'm building a small esxi server and need help deciding on a raid card to use for raid 1. Looking for something <£100 used with 512 or 1GB cache and BBU.

Please can someone recommend a suitable card, probably being paired with 2xWD black's but "may" be using SSD instead depending on drive pricing.

Would something like the lsi 2108 surfice? No HP P410 etc please had bad experiences with them.

LSI/Broadcom MegaRAID 9260-8i should work well enough. It's a 2108 based card, and it supports a FastPath add-on key for SSD's. It usually comes with 512mb of ram.

You can also go with a MegaRAID 9271-8i, which is based off of a dual core RoC, and usually comes with 1GB RAM, and comes with FastPath, but I'm not sure it's able to be found in your price range.

Hope that helps!
