Iops and throughput are different things.
The best ssds currently max out reading at 1.5 milion iops and 4 KByte io size.
In 2015 a ramdisk consisting of DDR3 1600MHz ECC ram could do over 4.2 Millionn iops (https://www.snia.org/sites/default/...EdenKim_How_Fast_is_Fast_RAM_diskBlock-IO.pdf).
DDR4 & DDR5 should do a lot more at lower latencies.
