Silverstone makes short 4U cases at much much cheaper price.

With 45drives you pay a lot for a backplane.
You know, I wouldn't mind the price if it were, say, a managed backplane, but that much for an unmanaged backplane is kind of obscene. At least you can see the serial number label on the front of the drives to identify which is which.

Hadn't seen those.

Short stuff with lots of drive bays seems a little rare and that was the only one I knew about.

I mostly use 24 or 36 bay supermicro stuff, so it's not my market anyway.

Buy a couple of Intel Optane drives for metadata and slog vdev, you will have better experience with the NAS. They don't have to be big in size. A few hundreds for metadata and 32-64gb for slog should be enough
