Hi,

I have a R730xd with 24x2.5”+2x2.5” setup. Using an HBA adapter, I would like to connect some external 3.5” disks to use in my virtual Truenas. The challenge is to provide power to the external disks. Is it possible to use one of the PCI-e power slots and PCI-e to Molex/SATA cable to power the disks? I have read that Dell uses a different layout but wasn’t able to confirm and I am not feeling courageous enough to just try and see.

Thanks!

Why not just get a PSU and hook them up to that? Way less janky than adapting and hanging cables out of the pci slot.
