I'm looking for a 24 port PoE+ switch for a friends house:
Looking into:
+ HP HPE 1420-24G-PoE+ (124W) Switch (JH019A) [unmanaged, fanless]
+ HPE 1820-24G-PPoE+ (185W) Switch (J9983A) [layer 2, some models fanless]
Alternatively, a 1910 and doing a similar fan mod with a single 200mm fan + arduino to monitor fan speeds / temps.
which is awesome!Bought this 48 port switch used for $80USD (HP ProCurve 3500yl-48g-Poe+) but it was SUPER loud:
Removed those tiny fans and installed some 200mm big boys:
Absolutely silent. Even if you put your ear up to the grills there is zero noise. TONS of air flow, runs cool as a cucumber
This was the test fit, found out I had to remove the expansion bay cover for better air flow:
Love love love it. Powering 9 PoE ip cameras and 6 PoE voip phones (and running the rest of my network too).
Hopefully I can track down the 10gbe expansion board cheap some time, would be nice to have 2 x 10gbe ports for my server.
