Saw this post:

Bought this 48 port switch used for $80USD (HP ProCurve 3500yl-48g-Poe+) but it was SUPER loud:

Removed those tiny fans and installed some 200mm big boys:

Absolutely silent. Even if you put your ear up to the grills there is zero noise. TONS of air flow, runs cool as a cucumber :)

This was the test fit, found out I had to remove the expansion bay cover for better air flow:

Love love love it. Powering 9 PoE ip cameras and 6 PoE voip phones (and running the rest of my network too).

Hopefully I can track down the 10gbe expansion board cheap some time, would be nice to have 2 x 10gbe ports for my server.

which is awesome!

I'm looking for a 24 port PoE+ switch for a friends house:

Looking into:

+ HP HPE 1420-24G-PoE+ (124W) Switch (JH019A) [unmanaged, fanless]

+ HPE 1820-24G-PPoE+ (185W) Switch (J9983A) [layer 2, some models fanless]

Alternatively, a 1910 and doing a similar fan mod with a single 200mm fan + arduino to monitor fan speeds / temps.

For 16 ports / 8 ports PoE+ unmanaged:

TP-Link TL-SG1016PE - 16 Ports / 8-PoE Ports (110W) - with 200mm fan mod ~ <$40

Get one of those Brocade 6450-24P switches. Around $150 with some bargaining on ebay and has 4 10 Gig ports.

They can be near silent with a fan mod.

I have a 6610-48P, its great but complicated.

Couldn't pass up on getting them a TP-Link TL-SG1016PE for $30 shipped, open-box like new.

Would prefer a HPE Switch but this will be plug and play after the fan mod.
