On further reading, it seems like the issue is that as of the new firmware, the drives are advertising that they do support queued trim whereas earlier versions simply stated they didn't support it. I don't think windows does queued trim, but linux sees the device as advertising it, tries it, and the drive promptly goes arse about face. Nice...! Really nasty bug particularly as Patrick says because it also affects enterprise drives which should have explicit (and tested!) linux support.

Incidentally - I don't have trim enabled on most of my linux machines as, from what I've read, garbage collection on most SSDs should be good enough that it's not needed in most IO workloads; I don't have high requirements at all so bowed to the rule of KISS.
