Hello,

Does somebody had experience with HP SE316M1 server?

It looks pretty similar to DL160 G6 server except dual PSU.

How does it perform with hypervisors? Mainly Hyper-V. What about drivers? I don't know about what motherboard is fitted in.

Thanks

At work we call these servers MACH 1's. There are 2 revisions. it looks like you have a 1U first revision model. They work well for all MS software (I never tried *nix on them). Technically HP does not support that model with Server 2012 (or R2) but they work. The biggest feature is that they have INTEL NICs built in them.

more details, these servers are (were - the DL380G8 replaced them) custom low cost servers for MS datacenters. There are 1000's of them coming out of the data centers now. There are many 2U units (SE326M1) that have 25 drives in the face.

these servers use parts from the DL160 and DL180G6 (like the 3 slot riser card for the 2U server).

Having a hard time finding the SE326R1. Do you mean the SE326M1? I see a few of them on ebay, but not very cheap.

There is a deal available for the following configuration:

HP SE316M1
2x L5520
16GB RAM
2x PSU
P800 RAID

Should I consider it?

Thanks

That DOES sound like a good deal! ;). I think you forgot to indicate how much, which affects how good the deal is.... Some of these look pretty decent, I'm looking for something to move the CPU's and RAM out of some blades and this much be a cost effective way to get there...

On eBay listing states for 170£ + Free shipping with Best offer available.

I made an offer of 130£ with free shipping and it was automatically accepted, however - I dunno how is it possible - I received an invoice with 130£+60£ postage.

Did somebody had similar experience with best offer? How can seller change the postage costs after your successful offer?

Thanks

When you list am auction it asks for an range where you would auto accept. Auto accepts don't pay any attention to the comments posted by the bidder. So that's probably why it had no idea your offer was including the shipping as it never got as far as the seller before it auto accepted.

Seller corrected the invoice and now it's ok!

Final price was 130£ (aprox. US$212).

Finally got around to getting it running. Some Pros and Cons

Pros:
* Takes X56xx series CPU's without needing a BIOS update, running a pair of X5650s
* 8 Drive Bays!
* 6 onboard SATA ports and room in case for internal drives
* 4 Supplied SATA power connectors, 1 Molex Connector
* Dedicated ILO Management port
* Redundant power supplies
* SAS Backplane

Cons:
* Loud (This means a lot from a guy who considers the C6100 quiet), so not so good for home without some fan mods
* You will need an 8 port HBA or RAID Card or cables. The backplane cables supplied are SFF-8087 to SFF-8087, so no motherboard connection

In the end, great piece of kit for the price.

BThunderW - does the iLO version come as an add-on for iKVM or do you get it out of the (used) box?

Stanza, there is a thread on here where people have drop shippers from the US to reduce shipping costs.

To be honest, I haven't tried the iLO yet, I still have it running on the bench so right now only using local access.
