1. Many vendors do require specific vendor codes on the eeprom of transceivers. I don't believe any of your equipment does though. I would just tell them to make it cisco, so you can use them on a Cisco if you ever needed to since they vendor lock.

2. The adapters are correct, lc-lc. The wallplate won't work though, wrong dimensions.

3. I can't say definitively, having never used one. But if it doesn't it's a crap switch and belongs in the garbage.
Appreciate the advice, Aero, including a confirmation that the wall plate isn't right.

@dave On page 12 of this thread there should be the settings / config to perform LAG and LACP on the LB6M.
Thanks @qamaro! I should have done a comprehensive review of this thread first. FWIW I scanned through all 105 pages of the E5-2670 thread last weekend - I learned a lot but I also haven't quite recovered from the brain overload that resulted. I should be able to read full threads again soon ;)

The wall plate dimensions say 86x86 mm, but perhaps that is from edge to edge of the entire plate. They have a picture of one of the plates with the LC connectors installed, and it looks right, so it probably is exactly what you would need.

Who said I was mad or whatever you claim I was. It was an even better joke my friend. And we need entertainment here and we are getting truck loads of it. So, thank you!!! ;)

I don't need a router for the Gigabit internet connection from my power utility company I have. They drop fiber up to the electric board and from there its CAT6 to the closet. All my server equipment resides there. To all other nook and corner of the house its wireless or wireless ac (> 1 Gbps) bridge if the bandwidth is really required like to my htpc.

Below you can find a snippet of a lb6m running Indigo on 2.6.25-bcm-ntsw

I had tried all the ports and they seem to work but as you can seem there are som inconsistencies as port 1 is port 49 and port 9 is port 2, port 10 is port 3 ....

for those playing at home: (you need to have u-boot, if you don't update to it)
Code:
1.) stop uboot
2.)
setenv netmask switch_netmask
setenv ipaddr switch_ip
tftpboot 0x8000000 tftp_server:00_firmware
bootm 0x8000000

Seems there is a forum limit for 10000 letters/post so here is my second post ( as it did not fit in the first). As you can see there is ssh and web access for it and it works. This is just temporary as it does not modify any file on your switch, but don't come after me if all hell breaks loose and you break your switch. So you had been warned. When you reboot your switch it will go to your old fastpath application.

At this moment I don't plan to make an uploadable image, but if the request is high I might do that as well.

Now if anyone understands openflow's rc.soc please let me know as I think we might fix the port issues but I am not in a hurry to understand rc.soc. I have tried the one inside switchdrvr but it seems switchdrvr does more that just using this file to boot up it's internal (or infernal) openflow. For now just have fun with this.

Here is a good deal on this switch a NATEX.us....

Quanta LB6M 10GB 24-Port SFP+ Switch with 2 x SFP+ transceiver modules

The LB6M is priced at $298 .... I am really considering this as I currently need a minimal of eight spf+ ports in a switch. I suspect this is the best deal available. However, I am concerned about the CLI only as I sometimes struggle with my EdgeRouter. Any advice? I would only need to place a few ports into a different VLAN as I am setting up a 4 node ceph cluster.

Thanks!

Hey Caleb! Welcome to STH my friend! We are glad to have ya!

Yeah, you should be ok with the switch. Most of the commands to get the switch up and running are here on the thread. I gathered quite a bit of info from the knowledge poured into the thread by the amazing guys here and put some of it into a single post. There is also alot more on VLAN's and setting up LAG i haven't gotten a chance to include too. I was thinking of typing up a small text document with the info from the posts to make it easier to just download the document and follow the instructions from there. See my post #220 on page 11 and post #295 on this page for info to begin setup. I wrote the instructions in a very easy, lighthearted manner to make it easy to understand and follow. I tried to include simple examples for command line syntax so that you can know just how to space the words and everything.

The switch is currently only command line right now, but we also have great guys like Sorin who just posted right above your post. He is working with someone right now, to try putting a different firmware on the switch to allow us to have a web/http gui and other cool features. Correct me Sorin if I'm overselling/understating your work!

All in all, you also have the knowledgeable guys here on the forum and this thread if you need anything. Don't be afraid to ask questions my friend.

We will do our best to help you.

Oh, and great price on the switch. I paid $400 bucks for mines!
Thank you for the encouraging response! I put in my order... :)

Now I just have to wait for it to arrive, woot!

Has anyone had any luck with 1G copper SFPs in the SFP+ slots? I have tried Finisar FCLF-8521-3, eNet GLC-T-ENC, and Mikrotik S-RJ01, but none of them are working.

Admin Physical Physical Link Link LACP Actor
Intf Type Mode Mode Status Status Trap Mode Timeout
--------- ------ --------- ---------- ---------- ------ ------- ------ --------
0/8 Enable 10G Full Down Enable Enable long

Interestingly I never see any Phy mode other than 10G Full. And the usual Brocade "speed-duplex 1000-full" command is not allowed in interface.

"interface speed" only lists 10 and 100, and those are not valid modes for the 10G ports.

I have some 10G DAC cables that are working fine. But I have some older gear as well I'd like to connect at 1G.

Edit: Went back and re-read the entire thread. Looks like nobody else has gotten this working either.

I've used it with all 4 1Gbe ports LACP to a 24 port 1Gbe switch and I have used a mikrotik CRS226-24g-2s+RM connected via a 0.5m DAC.

Yup. dwright1542 has said multiple times that they have an optical SFP transceiver working but has yet to verify the P/N. Another person thought they had one working but recanted. Everyone else who has tried one or several has reported failure.

And in my experience trying to get a 10GbE transceiver to link with a 1GbE transceiver on the other end doesn't work either, tho I've misplaced the 1GbE transceiver now and can't say what the P/N was.

I'd have liked to use some 1GbE RJ-45 SPFs to eliminate wasting an LB4M for IPMI traffic... but I think I'm just going to swap the LB4M for an old Netgear L2 switch that only draws 15W and call it a day.

I ended up swapping my LB4M for a ProCurve 1810G-24 because of the noise and power consumption. Heading into the summer my power bill will sky rocket. Every little bit helps.

Yup. That's me. I know it's a finistar, but getting downtime may be months away. I promise at first chance I'll get the P/N.

My LB6M arrived... all was well until I accidentally ran the following command, "vlan port tagging all"... now I do not have access to my switch. Any recommendations?
