looking for a 24 port replacement for some brazillian switch i got for free. This plastic POS has served it's purpose and now I'm looking for a QUIET (fanless preferred) 24 port managed gigabit switch.

Prefer to keep it under $100. If it's POE+ that's even better.

Cisco 2960G's are also very quiet. I have a 24 port at home. Unfortunately I don't think you'll find a gigabit POE+ switch for $100 or less. Plus POE greatly increases the power and cooling requirements.

POE+ is a pipedream. I have a POE+ switch here on my desk and it's a bit noisy. I'd have to replace the fans in them to make it quieter.

A man can wish can he not?

I second the HP ProCurve 1810G 24. I bought one and was so impressed I bought another.

HP1810-24G would also be my recommendation. Used to run 8 of them across three sites and they were perfect - great HP warranty, silent, good-enough web interface.

Huh I didn't realize they made non-fanless 24-port ones - (sorry - I missed that you said 1800 not 1810)

I have a fanless HP ProCurve 1810G 24 sitting here by my desk that I've been meaning to sell for a while now!
It works great - I just upgraded to the 48-port one.
It's not POE+, but does what it says it does.
send me a PM if you're interested

Also look for procurve 2530-24g. It does have a fan but very quiet. There is a variant with 2 SFP+. HP sent it as a replacement for 2810-24G. Mine has 4 SFP (J9776A). POE+ variants are also available.

A 24 port POE+ switch that is also fanless is probably an impossible combination - too much heat to dissipate. Remove the POE requirement, and you can get a fanless, unmanaged HP 1410-24G with a lifetime warranty for $50-75 on eBay, or a managed HP1810-24G for $150-175, also fanless and also with a lifetime warranty.

Bought this 48 port switch used for $80USD (HP ProCurve 3500yl-48g-Poe+) but it was SUPER loud:

Removed those tiny fans and installed some 200mm big boys:

Absolutely silent. Even if you put your ear up to the grills there is zero noise. TONS of air flow, runs cool as a cucumber :)

This was the test fit, found out I had to remove the expansion bay cover for better air flow:

Love love love it. Powering 9 PoE ip cameras and 6 PoE voip phones (and running the rest of my network too).

Hopefully I can track down the 10gbe expansion board cheap some time, would be nice to have 2 x 10gbe ports for my server.

do you really need POE on 24 ports? if not, and you only need a few POE ports, solve your POE requirement in some other way. your choices are limited for fanless quiet switches if you want POE. but if you don't need POE, there are many, many good choices for fanless design gigabit switches. I just installed a TP-LINK T1600-52TS (48-port + 4 SFP gigabit switch) for a client earlier today and it is completely fanless and with over 40 ports active only got a little warm on the bottom. I've also used Zyxel switches with much success; for example: Zyxel GS1910-24 24-port 1000Mbps/1Gbps Layer 2 managed gigabit ethernet switch.
