This has been a very useful thread for me. Thank you all for the contribution. I just bought a New Plexxi PX-S3EQ-R 32 PORT 100G SWITCH to upgrade my homelab. My understanding is this is exact same as Celestica DX010 but made for HPE. I am going to try 202405 build first. I am a newbie and my experience so far is to setup an Arista 7050 TX for my homelab.

It might take a few weeks for me since this is just a hobby outside of my non-tech day job. I will keep this group posted with the progress.

just wanted to chime in. I've been using the 202411 for a bit since helping and making sure all the fixes were committed. Pretty soon I will be going up to 202505 to test.

It's been really solid since the fixes.

Has anyone here tested FRR's PIM?

I thought the newer branches require secure boot. Does the 202411 branch work with the 2014.08 ONIE on the DX010s?

I just want to add to this thread.

According to Mellanox product sheet for these cables:
MCP7F00-A0xxRyyz cables up to 2m support IEEE 802.3by CA-25G-N (Cable Assembly No-FEC) with low
latency. Cables from 3m to 5m support IEEE 802.by CA-25G-L (Cable Assembly Long) with RS-FEC (Reed
Solomon Forward Error Correction) enabled. For 2.5m and 3m cables there are two versions supporting
either CA-25G-N or CA-25G-L.
So for short runs, you are fine.

useful thread, got a DX010 at about $200 few days ago, MFG DATE:2018-10-24.
tried installing several versions with diffreent problems
tried 202405, 2024011and 202505 all working fine.
sudo config interface breakout Ethernet0 4x25G[10G] -f
include -f option, dynamic breakout works, then it doesn't.

Hi everyone, I just received mine.

Manufacture Date 0x25 19 08/09/2019 15:11:19
Loader Version 0x29 7 2014.08

Is the loader version the ONIE version? How do I upgrade ONIE?

I've installed the following SONiC image:

1193709 20260815.6 202605 Azure.sonic-buildimage.official.broadcom succeeded 2026-08-15T08:07:03 2026-08-15T15:06:31 b458aa381d

But after it is installed, sitting on SONIC login prompt, it kernel panics:

Loading SONiC-OS OS kernel ...

error: file `/grub/i386-pc/efi_gop.mod' not found.

Success!

Was able to upgrade ONIE to 2021.08, but that didn't help with kernel panics.

Flashed several builds until got one that works.

202505.1193696

I've placed the ONIE updater in the root of a FAT32 USB stick, powered up the switch and chose ONIE Updater from menu.

I then inserted the USB stick and it picked it up, flashed the ONIE update, and rebooted.

I then downloaded target/sonic-broadcom.bin from here:

Rebooted the switch again, and from ONIE menu chose Install OS.

I then used WinSCP to upload the .bin to /tmp, then ran

Code:
onie-nos-install /tmp/sonic-broadcom.bin
Switch rebooted again, then automatically loaded SONiC OS, I logged in with 'admin' and 'YourPaSsWoRd'.

After a while, got notification that switch is ready to go, apparently it does some installation in the background, which always failed for me with newer builds.

We bought several of these units and tried several sonic versions with mixed results, we couldn't out them on production. This switch model made me want to avoid anything that runs Sonic community :'(
I really love the concept of Sonic community being the Ubuntu (I know the closest comparison would be LINUX not a distro), but it's so hard to make all features to work properly unless you get a commercial version.
